Transport

Firstly you will need to fly to Ibiza (there's only one airport) and then travel to Ibiza Port. It's about 10-15mins in a taxi or bus from the airport. At the Port (El Puerto) you need to take a ferry to Formentera, we are negotiating a group ticket price for everyone at the moment so we'll let you know.

The ferry runs regularly, every hour throughout the day from 7.30am to 8.30pm (approx). It takes about 40mins to get to Formentera on the ferry. Remember if you get a late flight though you might need to stay in Ibiza for one night. There are lots of hotels near the port which are fine for one night if needed.

Check Skyscanner.com for the best prices and times for all the airlines. You can fly to Ibiza from Manchester, Liverpool, Blackpool and Birmingham (for the Northerners!). Londoners, you are spoilt for choice!

Formentera

The ferry drops you off in the port La Savina. Formentera is a small island 19km end to end. You will probably need to rent a car or motorbike (or bicycle for those exercise freaks). If you have a driving licence you can rent a bike up to 125cc which is perfectly fine for getting around the island. We are negotiating deals on car and bike hire so I will let you know which company will give us the best discount when I have the details.

Accommodation

There will be quite a lot of tourists visiting in September but it is not peak season and prices will be a little lower and there is more availability for accommodation but it's advisable to book as soon as possible. Apparentently there have been some scams with people offering bogus accommodation on the internet so if you are not sure please ask us to check it out first and don't send any money without being sure they are legit! It seems that normally you have to pay a deposit of about half and then later the rest if you book in advance.

There are lots of self catering apartments and a few hotels and 'hostales', this doesn't mean hostel in Spanish it just means a slightly cheaper type of hotel.

As for accommodation anywhere in the middle section of the island would be ideal. We have not confirmed the location (keeping it as a surprise!) but it will be in Sant Francesc (San Francisco) and Playa Migjorn (Platja Migjorn) area which is all around the middle section of the island.

Es Pujols
Close to the Port it's the most touristy part of the island and will have the cheapest accommodation options. It's not the most beautiful place on the island but it's not a bad option as you have lots of restaurants and nightlife. Might get a bit loud at night.

Sant Francesc (San Francisco)
The tiny capital. Inland but not far from all the beaches. Quieter than Es Pujols but with restaurants and bars.

Sant Ferran (San Ferran)
Smaller than San Francesc and also inland but again shops, restaurants and a few small bars.

Es Caló
This is just an area next to a rocky but beautiful beach with apartments and a couple of restaurants but it's a good location for other beaches and the wedding.

El Pilar de la Mola
A very small town at the far right of the island in a beautiful area inland but bit out of the way.

Cala Saona
Really just a beach with a hotel and a few apartments. It's very beautiful and worth a visit but again is not as good a location because it's on the far left of the island.

For accommodation try these websites:

Astbury
They have a variety of nice accommodation with a range of prices. We have stayed with them before and on the website you can see the prices etc. Be careful though it's priced per person. Ben is the manager (British) and if you email him mention my name and he will try and fit you in if there is something you like.

Remember that 'hostales' in Spanish is a type of hotel not hostel. They are usually just a slightly cheaper type of hotel.

These all have websites too:
Hostal Espi 2 - 0034 971 32 89 18
Hostal Sol y Mar - 0034 971 32 88 68
Hostal Aigua Clara - 0034 971 32 81 83
Hostal Maysi - 971 32 85 47

Hotels
Insohotel Formentera - (0034) 971 327070
Inshotel Maryland - Check out the website for these two.

We will add more info to this blog as it comes.........!
